In The World Of Technology, Data Is King.

No matter what kind of or how many devices you have, the importance of backing up your data cannot be understated. You might take your technology for granted but it and the information on it can be gone in an instant!

Whether it be your mobile phone, lost in your drink at the pub, or somewhere else never to be seen again, Your Ipad, favourite toy of your kids dropped and smashed. Your trusty laptop, suddenly having a hard drive failure or being hit by a interweb virus. Or your website, hacked and destroyed by a professional. Aside from your emotional reaction to your losing a favourite tool/toy losing the data on it can be a major set back.

Prudent individuals know that the value of their electronic data cannot be underestimated. In a moment, years worth of work can disappear, never able to be retrieved. Computer repairmen and IT professionals are called upon every day to give the unhappy verdict that their clients’ data is sadly unsalvageable.

Luckily external storage hard drives are nowadays relatively cheap and the processes to transfer your data from your device to the storage unit are simple and even possibly automated by your device. For the more sophisticated user, cloud storage is becoming more popular – even your Ipad and Iphone offers you automated cloud backup.

One or two terabytes (Tb) of harddrive is plenty to store the average user’s backup data from all their devices. A one Tb desktop drive will set you back under $100.00. Personally I prefer a portable drive, which although a little more expensive is far more flexible and user friendly as it is powered by USB direct from your computer rather than needing a 240v power connection.

You have been warned. Whether it be your Iphone contacts, your holiday snaps from your last vacation, or the financial and administrative data from your business – back it up.

I myself have suffered the hard reminder…… a glass of red wine spilt into my laptop keyboard – and just when I had completed my BAS. Aaaaargh!

The catchcry of the electronic revolution should be Backup, Backup, Backup!

In the world of electronics, failure is inevitable. Backup everything and regularly. One day in the not so distant future, chances are you will be so glad you did!
